Since learning the results of the CVS test, and the chances of miscarriage being high, my doctor asked me if I would like to come in every week or every two weeks--or as much as I wanted--to check for the heartbeat. She said miscarriages don't always result in bleeding and that the baby could die without us knowing. (She probably put it a little more eloquently than that, but that is it in a nutshell). So, today was our first doctor appointment to check primarily for the heartbeat.
I was a little nervous given the fact that the previous two times I was in, we should have heard a heartbeat, but couldn't. (Has nothing to do with the cystic hygroma, has a lot to do with my tilted cervix).
Anyway, as she puts the Doppler on my stomach, probably a good 20-30 seconds pass before she finds it. It felt like forever! But once she found it, it was GOOD NEWS!!! The baby's heartbeat is strong and steady--which is a very good sign!!! She said if the baby's heartbeat was fast it usually indicates fluid around the heart with my condition. And, while we were listening to it, the baby moved, another good sign. I keep thinking I can feel the baby move but think it's still a little early.
So all in all, it was GREAT news and very encouraging!! I am 15 weeks and I will go in again in about 2 more weeks and then a few weeks later we will have the "will tell us a lot" 20 week ultrasound!
I still feel like this baby is a fighter and that we have a God of miracles--so I feel pretty confident that all will go well with this baby.
And, I must say what a tremendous husband I have. He has truly been a rock to me throughout this whole process. Someone once asked me how Taylor was handling this trial and it kind of caught me off guard. Taylor has been nothing but faithful and believing and supportive through this--from the moment I told him we had a problem. I have welcomed and leaned on him in so many ways--for his Priesthood blessings, for his faithful perspective, for his warm embrace. There have been nights where I will look at him and just ask him a question pertaining to how I am feeling and he will answer it in the most Christ-like, faithful and positive way. And I have been truly grateful to have him by my side through all of this, I couldn't imagine doing this with anyone else. I am grateful that we have handled this trial together and that it has brought us closer together as we have turned to the Lord and recognized His hand in all of this. Because we know that the Lord has something greater in store for us than we can even comprehend.
