New purchases for the house

Monday was also an exciting day for us. I took Isaac out by myself for the first time--it really was a great feat for me. I had a doctor's appointment to make sure my incision was healing well, and I took Isaac with me. His sleep schedule was pretty off, and then when he did wake up, eat and go back to sleep, it left little time for me to get ready. I still had to get the diaper bag ready and load up the car and load Isaac up in his car seat, needless to say, I was planning on rescheduling my doctor's appointment. But, I figured I could make it if I just hurried. (My mom went to lunch with her mom, I wasn't ready so I didn't go with them...I was planning on meeting up with them, but my mom thought she was taking me to the doctor...miscommunication obviously took place. She was worried about me driving and carrying the car seat too soon that I would hurt myself or cause the recovery to slow down.) Anyway, we made it to the doctor just fine, a little late, but in time. I didn't even think about how driving would affect my incision--I just took pain medicine as a precaution and was fine--come to find out you shouldn't take pain medicine and drive at the same time...oops! I didn't notice any difference though.



After the doctor appointment, which Isaac continue to sleep through, I ran some errands with my mom. Yes, my mom is still here and I love it. I am actually not looking forward to having her leave this Thursday. She has been such a huge help and it has been so fun to have her here. I am not looking forward to how quiet my days will be knowing she is not here anymore. But we ran to one of my favorite stores--Bed, Bath and Beyond--and got some great rugs for our house! This is something Taylor and I have been wanting to get for quite some time, so this was a very exciting buy for us!!





And, we got one for under the kitchen table too.

Now, this doesn't have anything to do with the area rugs, but it is definitely one of my favorite things about our house! My sister in law Heather gave this to me as a gift for graduation...it's a quote that we picked and were able to customize according to our space needs. Once we had it custom made it was mailed to us and then we put it on the wall...it's basically a sticker. I just love how it turned out and how it looks. It is absolutely perfect!! It says, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15." Thanks again Heather! :-)

Our First Sunday Out

Sunday brought an eventful day for us. Our friends blessed their baby in our ward at 9 a.m., and we were planning on taking Isaac with us--because, really...to go to church not pregnant without a baby, might seem a little weird! But when it was getting time to go, Isaac was out cold and didn't sleep much at night, so we figured we might as well let him sleep and let Nana and Papa watch him. After that blessing, which went really well, we headed up to Blackfoot for my cousin's blessing. Isaac did really well with the car ride and through sacrament. After sacrament we went over to my aunt and uncle's house for some food and Isaac was still asleep. It wasn't until right before we were leaving that he started to wake up. (We did wake him up after the first baby blessing, don't think we let him go that long without food!) Here are some pictures from the day.

Taylor and my brother-in-law Tyson, they didn't plan this, but they both just happened to wear pink ties. Taylor's also pretty proud of his toy he is holding. :-)

Too cute for words

Compared to Thursday, our days have been relatively uneventful. Papa, aka my dad, came into town last night, as well as my sister and her husband, so just about everyone in our families have met Isaac. Here he is asleep on dad's chest...the moment Taylor has been waiting for...

An eventful day for Isaac

Well, today was definitely the most eventful day that Isaac has had so far. It started off great...Isaac had a GREAT night! I was certainly pleased about that...only woke up twice to feed and went right back down when he was done. So, even though the night was great...Taylor was still wiped out:

He got home from his two morning classes and crashed on the couch! Haha... Here's Nana (my mom) with her first grandchild!

After a good morning nap and good feeding, we gave Isaac his first sponge bath...he didn't like it very much...

But, always an entertainer, peed on dad in the middle of it!!!

That seriously was so funny...it was one of those things you say "ok, he's going to pee, watch out, or cover him up" and when you least expect it...it comes. It was funny!

And then...we were off to the Doctor's office to be circumcised....dun dun dun....

BUT, good news, Isaac did GREAT!!! He cried a little bit when they stuck the shot in him to numb the area--which was so hard for me--but then practically fell asleep through the rest of the procedure. And, has been great ever since. The doctor said he may be a little irritable this evening, but so far, he's good. He's currently sound asleep.

If the circumcision wasn't enough, we had to go to the hospital today to get Isaac's 2nd PKU done. This is where they take blood samples from his little foot...I'd say it was a prick, but it wasn't a needle they used, it looked more like a mini razor blade. But again, he did great through this as well!! We were so proud of him...after this he fell fast asleep in the car seat. So, so far so good, we'll see how the night goes tonight.

This was the most activity I've had since coming home from the hospital and it definitely wiped me out. I don't know what my deal is, but I have the hardest time taking a nap. It was a total different story when I was in school, but now for some reason I just can't stop what I'm doing (which really, what am I doing right now when Isaac's asleep??) to lay down and rest.

A little piece of Heaven

We just can't get enough of our little guy! He is so precious. Last night started off really well...but he seems to have a wakeful period around 4 a.m. :-) He was up from 4 to 7 pretty much and has basically slept the rest of today. He is such a good baby, though, no complaining from me. Taylor is such a good help during the nights...around 6 a.m. I started poking Taylor to wake him up and told him he needed to rock his son to sleep and he got right out of bed and got him to sleep. Nana has been a huge help too, it's definitely nice to have her here. Today she was cleaning our house and was mopping and dusting...I hate to dust...so I told her she could come visit every month and I'd save all the dusting for her! :-) I'm sure she'll be out every month...butI don't think she'll dust!

We take Isaac to the doctor tomorrow...he's getting circumsized...I'll let you know how well I hold up or if I'll be crying more than Isaac! :-(

Day one at home!! Isaac is doing great and we survived our first night! He is just so adorable...I love him so much! I would write more but he's waking up and needs to eat, so that's my cue!

ISAAC TAYLOR HOUSLEY

Isaac Taylor Housley was born on Saturday, October 6, at 7:55 p.m. He weighed 7 lbs 12 oz and was 20 inches long.

He is so perfect!!! We love him dearly and we are both so excited to be home with our son! Long story short...we went to the hospital on Saturday just to pre-register and thought that since we were there we might as well see if I had progressed any. They hooked me up to a monitor and noticed that Isaac's heartbeat wasn't handling the contractions very well. At this point my contractions were every six minutes and after an hour they were every four minutes. So they monitored me for an hour and Taylor and I just watched conference to pass the time. After the hour of monitoring the nurse called the doctor to tell her what was happening and he thought everything was in my favor that they might as well induce me and get me going. (I was full term, I was starting to dilate, etc. etc...had I been 35-37 weeks they would not have induced me). So...they started me on potocin and weren't happy with what they were seeing. They put an internal monitor on Issac's head to more accurately know what his heartbeat was doing and then an hour later wanted to put an internal monitor on me to know what my contractions were doing. At this point they called the doctor on call to come in--he was sitting in the Priesthood session when this call came. Needless to say, he didn't feel comfortable letting me continue on my own and wanted to do a c-section. I was having some pretty good contractions at this point and was not a happy camper.

They wheeled me into the OR and gave me an intrathecal (not an epidural, but pretty much the same thing) and once that was in, I was much better! Everything went smooth with the rest of the surgery and recovery and we are home now with one sweet, happy, perfect little boy!! He is feeding really well and sleeps a lot and cries little. He is just adorable and we are so happy to have him here healthy. After this experience, I would definitely get an epidural or intrathecal on my next labor, and really the c-section was not that bad. I wasn't expecting it so that didn't make me happy, but it was fast and painless. The recovery has not been bad--I am up and moving today...sore, but not bad. I truly feel blessed to have this child and love him so much!! Taylor is amazing with him and loves being a dad! We love him so much!!!

How long have you been together? I met Taylor in August 2004, but since we've been together...January/February 2005 (it was official in February)

How long did you date? Well, we got married in December of 2005....so....about 11 months

How old is he? 24

Who eats more? Before I got pregnant or during? :-) Just kidding...Taylor eats more in one sitting, and I snack more (which is another pro about carrying a diaper bag...I can stash my snacks in there!).

Who said I love you first? Taylor...in my apartment complex's parking lot!

Who sings better? Mmm.....me.

Who is smarter? Book smarts-me, street smarts-Taylor

Who does the laundry? Well after Taylor shrunk my clothes, he is never touching the laundry again. Sometimes I wonder if he did that on purpose... ;)

Who does the dishes? When I cook, Taylor does all of the dishes. It works out well :)

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Right now Taylor does, but that's because it's a straight shot for me to the bathroom when I sleep on the left--and trust me, that's a big deal in the middle of the night! Once Isaac gets here, we're switching sides so Taylor can be closer to the door.

Who cooks dinner? I do

Who drives when you are together? Taylor always drives

Who is more stubborn? Oh that's a good question...we both are stubborn, but I think I win.

Who is the first to admit when they're wrong? Oh I totally win this one.

Who kissed who first? Taylor kissed me first

Who asked who out? Haha...Taylor did ask me out first, but then I had to ask him out for Valentine's day...yes, pretty lame, therefore, I probably should explain. We were hanging out and I got a call from another guy and I knew he was going to ask if I was available for Valentine's Day, so I silently mouthed to Taylor, "Are we going out tomorrow?" And Taylor said yes so I feel like I technically asked Taylor out.

Who proposed? Taylor-of course. It was great and wonderful and about 2 years ago on September 28...:-)

Who is more sensitive? Um, definitely me, add pregnancy hormones and you have a scary, sensitive mixture

Who has more friends? Taylor definitely keeps in touch with more of his friends, but at this point, his friends are my friends and my friends are his, so it doesn't really matter.

Who has more siblings? Taylor--I have one, he has five

Who wears the pants in the family? Lame question. I'd say we both do. Although, again, the pregnancy hormones may play a role on more than one day, but we are equal.

Doctor Update

Another week means another doctor's appointment. Again, progress is still being made. In a nut shell: Isaac has dropped--funny side comment...the doctor is measuring my stomach and then is feeling where the baby is and goes "There's his head, he's dropped." And I, being the ever clever one, says, "How do you know?" Taylor starts laughing and the doctor just kind of looks at me and Taylor says, "Well that's what he went to school for..." DUH! That's not what I meant...I wanted to know what his head felt like, I wasn't questioning the doctor's comment...anyway, it was pretty funny. Back to the visit in a nut shell: so he's dropped, I'm still about 50 percent effaced, but I am dilated to 1.5 cm. Yahoo! What this means: probably nothing. But again, we're happy that progress is being made.
